Mission Statement
To connect, educate, and support underserved differently-abled veterans and other persons with disabilities. Our focus areas include providing essential disability resources in independent living, vocational rehabilitation, and higher education to promote workforce success.

ASK Dr. Applewhite and the members of the DIFferently-Abled Network (DAN) about differently-abled veterans, and they will help you understand that we are not able to describe what a person with a disability looks like! The majority of most mental and physical impairments, even conditions that are severely painful and permanently disabling, are difficult to determine unless a wheelchair or mobility device is visible. People dealing with non-visible, or as Disabled World explains, "invisible disabilities" are not obvious to the average untrained eye. For those seeking disability resources, it’s essential to recognize that workforce success for differently-abled individuals comes from understanding these challenges.

In this episode, we discuss the perceptions of beauty, especially in relation to differently-abled veterans. We explore various disability resources available to support them and how they can achieve workforce success despite the challenges they face.

Les Brown motivates three "hungry to serve" differently-abled veterans: Dr. Will Moreland (aka Dr. Will), Dr. Vernet Joseph, and Dr. Danita Applewhite (aka Doc Apple).
In the USA, the most progressive country in the world, there is still great disparity in the treatment and access to school and work opportunities for minority and underserved persons with disabilities, including those who are blind or deaf.
Dr. Will Moreland discusses this disparity and explores the immense potential of genius within every human being. He emphasizes the importance of providing disability resources to ensure workforce success for all. Two Georgia veterans, who were differently-abled and seeking support from disability resources, tragically died by suicide at VA hospitals this past weekend. This highlights the ongoing struggles faced by veterans in accessing proper mental health services.
Additionally, community colleges often fail to graduate the veterans they recruit, which further emphasizes the need for tailored disability resources that can help these individuals achieve workforce success.
Moreover, suicide remains the second highest cause of death among college students, underscoring the urgent need for effective mental health strategies for all students, including our veteran population.
Today’s female veterans particularly face issues of feeling invisible and disconnected, which can exacerbate their mental health challenges.
Despite a recent VA report touting ‘positive outcomes’ from its suicide prevention programs, veteran suicide rates have not shown a significant decline, indicating that more comprehensive support, including specialized disability resources, is essential for ensuring the workforce success of our veterans.
